The 5 keys to making hydration your priority in autumn and winter

Les 5 clefs pour faire de l’hydratation votre priorité en automne-hiver

In the fall and winter, when temperatures drop and the air becomes drier, your skin quickly feels the effects. Wind, cold, and indoor heating dry out the ambient air, causing the skin to lose moisture.

The skin's hydrolipidic film, the natural barrier that retains water and protects against damage, gradually deteriorates. This results in:

  • Loss of hydration : the skin dries out more quickly, becoming uncomfortable and sometimes irritated.
  • Increased sensitivity : Dehydrated skin is more prone to redness and irritation.
  • Loss of elasticity : Insufficient hydration can promote the appearance of fine lines and make the skin less supple.

The result? Skin that feels tight, becomes rough and more fragile when faced with external aggressions.

Here are my 5 keys to answering this question and maintaining essential hydration.

1. Hydrate your skin from within
Even though we feel less thirsty in the fall, maintaining good hydration is still essential. Water is an essential component of our skin, and drinking at least 1.5 liters a day helps prevent dehydration. For an added bonus, try drinking hot water in the evening: it promotes perspiration, releases toxins, and cleanses pores, offering benefits comparable to a steam bath, but more convenient! You'll also sleep better, which is also beneficial for healthy skin.

2. Cleanse and exfoliate to better hydrate

Moisturizing your skin is great, but preparing the surface of the epidermis is even better! Gentle cleansing morning and night removes impurities while respecting the skin's natural protective film. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, revives radiance, and improves cell regeneration. This simple step also helps the skin better absorb moisturizers and prepare for the challenges of fall and winter.

Exfoliation also helps restore radiance to skin that is often dull and tired from summer.

3. Adjust your lifestyle
To keep skin well hydrated, you also need to protect it from external factors: tobacco, pollution, alcohol, stress, temperature fluctuations, and limescale all contribute to dehydration. Being aware of these factors and limiting them as much as possible helps keep skin soft and supple.

4. Adopt a suitable diet
What you eat plays a key role in the health of your skin. In the fall, favor foods rich in omega-3s, which boost elasticity and hydration. Vitamins A, C, and E are also valuable for boosting collagen and protecting cells. Add antioxidant-rich foods like berries, nuts, spinach, and sweet potatoes to counteract the effects of cold weather and pollution. Seasonal vegetables like pumpkin and carrots also provide beta-carotene to regenerate and protect the skin.

By regularly consuming these nutrient-rich foods, you help your skin stay supple, hydrated and protected against the harsh effects of autumn.

5. Hydrate and nourish your skin

Finally, moisturizers are your allies in the fall and winter. Apply a moisturizer morning and evening after cleansing your face. In the evening, opt for a richer treatment that combines hydration (water) and nutrition (lipids) to strengthen the hydrolipidic film. This retains water and protects the skin from external aggressions.

By following these steps, you will ensure your skin's comfort, radiance and resilience throughout the cold season! It's your turn
